Haunts and Related Incidents

Drawing from the Works Progress Administration Georgia Writers Project collection housed at the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library at the University of Georgia, Haunts and Related Incidents is a modern interpretation of early 20th century Georgia folklore and mythology. In the series I use multiple photographic formats, combined with found and fabricated objects and materials, oscillating between figurative and abstract imagery to mirror the dizzying blend of disparate materials and narratives inherent to the archived material. Through creating this work I aim to raise questions about the assumed objectivity of our cultural institutions and the materials they steward. And, ultimately, I aim to make sense of my position—a queer and temporary transplant to the south—within this reconstituted version of Georgia’s folk history.
